North Carolina State Auditor explains to WWAY how the “DAVE Act” will look

"When we report audits again, we base it on data, facts, and scrutiny."

NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY)–Senate President Phil Berger wants a state version of “DOGE” — the federal “Department of Government Efficiency.”
Berger has filed a bill called the “DAVE Act,” with DAVE standing for a “Division of Accountability, Value, and Efficiency” in the state auditor’s office.
The bill requires the auditor to take a comprehensive look at spending and make recommendations for any potential cuts or changes.
Auditor Dave Boliek came to Wilmington Thursday night, and we got to ask him about “DAVE” and how it would differ from “DOGE.”

“That merits up priorities of the legislature with findings at the state auditors office. When we report audits again, we base it on data, facts, and scrutiny. Look, I don’t think that the North Carolina government has quite got the fire burning like it’s burning in Washington D.C.; I think we’ve had good stewards in our legislature of the tax pay dollars, but I think there’s some efficiencies that we can find and we’re going to work hard to do that,” Boliek said.

The “DAVE Act” also gives Boliek the ability to utilize artificial intelligence and other tools to examine an agency’s spending.
