Northchase nursing home celebrates nat’l nursing home week

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — This week is national nursing home week.

One New Hanover County nursing home decided to celebrate in a big way Monday.

NorthChase Nursing and Rehabilitation Center put on a parade for its residents. Nursing home administrator Destiny Harris said they are the only nursing home in the area that has a VA contract where veterans can receive care at the facility for free. She said it was important to see law enforcement and local veterans supporting them.

“The biggest significance of it is just representation that we are a community,” Harris said. “We depend on them. They depend on us. We’re all one, so I think that them being present just kind of signifies that.”

The Trask Middle School Band also played during the parade. The New Hanover Sheriff’s Office, New Hanover Fire Department, Wilmington Funeral & Cremation, Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Human Wall for Fallen Soldiers, various healthcare businesses, various Veterans groups, churches, and other businesses also participated.
