Northeastern University offering free well water testing in Brunswick and Pender counties

SOUTHEASTERN NC (WWAY) — Private well users in the area can get their samples analyzed for bacteria and metals for free this month.
The program is offered through Northeastern University in cooperation with Brunswick and Pender County Department of Health and Health Services.
While the event is in Brunswick and Pender, you do not need to live there to participate.
Test kits will be distributed August 12 – 16 at Brunswick County Health Services at the Brunswick County Government Center in Bolivia.
In Pender County, you can collect the kits this week at 803 South Walker Street in Burgaw or 15060 US Hwy 17 in Hampstead.
Samples must be collected and returned from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on August 19 in Pender County and August 20 in Brunswick County.
There are a limited number of kits, so they will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Detailed sampling instructions will be provided, and water quality results will be emailed and mailed to residents. Residents will also receive a $10 gift card for their participation.
