Nourish NC unveils new Market to Market food truck
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — There are places in New Hanover County where people lack regular access to safe and nutritious food, but a new plan involving a food truck aims to help fight food insecurity.
Nourish NC held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new mobile Market on Market food truck, nicknamed the Mobile Mom.
The truck first became an idea following a fire at Everybody’s Supermarket back in 2018.
The truck will allow families to select from various breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, along with fruits, vegetables, and bread.
Nourish NC executive director Steve McCrossan said the response to the truck has been nothing but positive from the community.
“Yeah, so we’ve piloted the idea and tested it in a couple locations,” McCrossan said. “And we’ve had nothing but overwhelming feedback from parents, from teachers, from the kids. They love it, it feels like a market, it’s dignified, they get to choose the food that’s best for them and many have just called it like an overwhelming blessing.”
Nourish NC has partnered with Johnson Pre-K school as the truck will be parked outside the school every 1st and 3rd week of the month.
