Novant Health launches Hospital at Home program

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– There’s no place like home, and that’s why Novant Health has launched a new program that allows its patients to heal more comfortably, in a familiar environment.

Novant Health’s new “Hospital at Home” program allows eligible patients to receive hospital-level care, in the comfort of their own homes.

Patients are seen at least twice a day by paramedics, several times a day by a nurse, and at least once a day virtually by a physician.

In addition, nurses are available 24 hours a day virtually for any other needs a patient may have.

Christy Spivey is the Senior Director of the Hospital-Based Medicine Institute in Novant’s Coastal Market.

She says this care has helped patients heal more efficiently.

“Patients tell us that they enjoy being at home because they feel like they can heal better. They sleep better, they get to eat food that they have at home if they don’t choose to take our meals, and they are surrounded by family and friends, and it’s just a natural healing environment,” said Spivey.

Eligible patients include those in stable condition but still need daily hospital care.

Spivey says in addition to allowing a patient to recover at home, this program frees up more bed space at the hospital for those who need more advanced care.
