Nudist resort in Ocean Isle Beach is looking to expand its campground

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY)– Behind a wall, a gate, and multiple signs is the entrance of a unique campground, Whispering Pines Nudist Resort.

The resort is affiliated with the American Association for Nude Recreation and encourage body positivity.

It has pools, trails, and campsites, and it is looking to expand.

On Thursday, owner John Frick is looking to expand the campground at the Brunswick County Board of Adjustment Meeting. They currently have 57 recreational vehicle sites located on 35 acres, but they’re hoping to add a dozen more new sites for a total of 69.

The request is facing mixed reviews from people who are unfamiliar with the resort. Garret is a tree cutter who has done work for the resort and says the people there are some of the nicest people he’s met.

“You would never know they were there unless you went looking for it. They are everyday people like you see at the gas station. They mind their business, and they don’t try to force their views or what they do outside their own four walls”, said Garret.

Stephens says he was very surprised when he went to work on his first day, something he definitely wouldn’t forget, but was surprised about how well the community was together.

“Everything is well maintained, which is why they had us out there. It’s a really nice place if you are into those things”, said Garret.

Ahead of the board adjusters meeting, the expansions will hope to bring more customers, which is something Garret is ok with.

“I believe they should do it if they want to do it. Everybody is entitled to their own life. If they are ok with it, I am ok with it. As long as they keep it within their own area, I am ok with it”, said Garret.
