Number of issued building permits up in Brunswick County

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Brunswick County spokeswoman said building permits issued in the county has increased nearly 25% in 2015 compared to a year before.

She said there have been 2,295 home construction permits and 419 commercial permits issued. The number of commercial construction permits increased by 85%.

Julie Vinson, who recently moved to the area, said new homes and businesses are good for everyone.

“I think it’s great that means there’s growth. People are going to stay here and they are going to raise their children here. Their children are going to raise their children here. It’s going to be a growing community,” said Vinson.

Vinson said she understands why people are coming to the area.

“This is where everyone seems to be going, they are heading south. The beach doesn’t hurt, that’s always a plus,” said Vinson.

While some welcome the economic development in the area others said they are concerned that all the building will be too much, taxes will go up and the county will just get crowded.

The spokeswoman also said the value of these new projects is also increasing by 69 percent.

Ann Hardy, county manager, said this news is exciting, and it’s just a positive sign that Brunswick County’s economy is improving in Brunswick County.
