NY college students spend spring break volunteering in Cape Fear
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It may not look like your typical spring break, but for 11 students from Hamilton College in upstate New York, a week of volunteering in and around Wilmington is.
The all-girl group’s trip to Wilmington is part of Hamilton’s Alternative Spring Break program. The college sent nine groups down south and a tenth to New Jersey to volunteer.
The students in Wilmington will do direct service work with children during their week stay.
“I feel lucky that I am able to interact with the community,” student Jessica Gutfleish said. “I feel like I gain so much from interacting with the community that I feel lucky to them to give me this experience.”
The girls will also volunteer at Good Shepherd’s soup kitchen later this week.
