Oak Island house at total loss after fire breaks out

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — The Oak Island Fire Department responded to a house fire at 9:35 pm on 210 NE 42nd street in Oak Island.
Initial reports are that the two occupants inside the home smelled smoke and went outside to discover fire on the underside of the home. They were able to self-evacuate and no injuries were reported.
The home is considered a total loss, and the neighboring homes also sustained minor damage; however, crews were able to contain the fire within about one hour and prevent further damage.
As of now, no foul play is suspected.
