Oak Island mayor will not run for re-election

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — 3 term Oak Island mayor Betty Wallace will not be running for re-election this year.

Today Wallace told WWAY that for the last 12 years she has attended all but 1 council meeting and she has loved every minute of it. But after 6 years as mayor, she said she is ready to return to civilian life.

“I have given of my time, and I have loved every minute of it. And by the time my term ends, I will have been mayor for six years. I am ready for my husband and I to not have to be worried about being here the second Tuesday of every month,” Wallace said.

Wallace said she will remain active in the community even after her term ends this December.
