Oak Island Police: Man charged in deadly shooting during locksmith service call

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — The Oak Island Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting.
On Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at 6:18 p.m., the Oak Island Police Department was dispatched to 332 NE 49th St. in response to a report of gunshots fired.
Upon arriving, officers found one shooting victim who had been fatally wounded. The Oak Island Police Department has identified the victim as 61-year-old Randy Stewart of Southport (Boiling Spring Lakes).
The owner of the home where the shooting took place, 40-year-old Brian Reed Grant, was arrested on a charge of murder and has been booked into the Brunswick County Detention Center under no bond.
Stewart was the owner of Stewart Enterprises Locksmith Service. The Oak Island Police Department says the shooting appears to have occurred during a service call to the home by Stewart’s Locksmith business.
The department claims this is an isolated incident, and there is no remaining danger to the public.
