OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — During a special called meeting on Tuesday, September 3, Oak Island Town Council voted unanimously to name Kathryn Adams as the new Town Manager.

Currently in the role of Assistant Town Manager / Finance Director, Adams had been serving as Interim Town Manager since the retirement of the previous manager, David Kelly, on July 1 of this year. Adams was offered a three year agreement, effective immediately upon signing of the contract shortly after.

“The breadth and depth of Kathryn’s experience in public administration will prove to be a tremendous asset to the Town as we map our path forward with vision and intention in the near term,” expressed Mayor Liz White. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to have someone of her caliber at the helm. She is known for her expertise in finance and strategic planning, both of which are coveted skills in a manager of a quickly growing community such as ours. She has easily earned the respect of not only the Council, but that of her leadership team, the staff, and her colleagues across the County and State.”

Adams has a distinguished 21+ year record of public service, including the position of Secretary of Administration under former Governor Pat McCrory. Through her work in this role, Kathryn was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine for Outstanding Public Service.

Along with a Masters Degree in Public Administration, Adams has formerly served as Town Manager and Budget Director for municipalities in North Carolina and Florida, as well as has held executive level positions within other agencies.

An informal reception is scheduled prior to the Town Council Regular Meeting at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, September 10.
