OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Oak Island has issued a temporary Burn Ban for all areas within the Town limits, effective immediately and until further notice.

The Town says this ban is due to very high fire danger conditions currently being experienced in the area.

This action coincides with the Burn Ban issued for unincorporated areas within Brunswick County which went into effect as of 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.

The Burn Ban:

  • PROHIBITS open flames from devices such as firepits or outdoor fireplaces, as well as sparklers and all handheld or ground-based fireworks. NOTE: NC General Statutes 14-410 & 414 already prohibit the use of “explosive or aerial fireworks.”
  • CANCELS all currently active Beach Bonfire Permits (NOTE: current windspeeds may already prohibit these)
  • DOES NOT prohibit the use of grills and other enclosed cooking devices.

For questions or more information on this Burn Ban, or how to ensure fire safety at your home, contact the Oak Island Fire Department at 910-278-1000 or through the Department Contact Form.

If at any point an outdoor fire is observed, please CALL 9-1-1 immediately.
