President Obama to visit Cuba

President Barack Obama will visit Cuba next month, marking the first visit by an American president in nearly 90 years.

Mr. Obama officially announced the trip via a series of posts on Twitter this morning pointing out that he announced 14 months ago work to begin normalizing relations with Cuba.

The president’s visit to the island nation 90 miles south of the United States March 21 and 22 will be the first visit by a US president since Calvin Coolidge in 1928. The White House says the president will meet with Cuban President Raul Castro.

The United States reopened its embassy in Havana last summer.

The president’s trip to Cuba will be followed by a visit to Argentina March 23 and 24 to meet with new Argentine President Mauricio Macri, the White House says.
