Officials cite ‘inappropriate relationship with student’ for termination of Classical Charter Schools of Whiteville employee

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — An employee at Classical Charter Schools of Whiteville has been terminated after officials say the person engaged in “an inappropriate relationship with a student”.
The employee was let go Wednesday morning by headmaster Dawn Ivey after an investigation involving the student’s parents and local law enforcement.
Officials say there is no indication any other student or employee was involved.
“We can’t tell you how disappointed we are in this former employee’s behavior, which not only violated out trust and that of CCS-Whiteville parents, but runs counter to the pledge taken by all Classical Charter Schools of America employees and students to always act in an appropriate manner,” a statement read.
School officials say they acted immediately to notify both the parents and law enforcement officials and terminated the employee without hesitation.
No further details have been released.
