Officials encourage monetary donations over physical items as western NC roads remain closed
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — While many in our area have been quick to send supplies to the western part of North Carolina, state and local officials are recommending sending help in a different way.
As roads leading in and out of the western part of the state remain closed, it makes it all but impossible to get physical supplies to communities in need by road.
For now, state and local officials are pushing for monetary donations in place of physical items.
Assistant Director for Emergency Management Anna McRay said those donations allow communities to put money where it’s needed most.
“Sending physical donations can be difficult because although they’re very well-intentioned, there has to be somebody on the other end to receive them,” McRay said. “And right now this early in the response, there just aren’t the resources or the physical locations.”
