Woman, dog die in Southport mobile home fire
SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — A woman and a dog have died after a mobile home caught on fire in Southport early Wednesday.
According to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, the call came in just before 5:45 a.m. The sheriff’s office and Southport Fire Department responded to Anchor Village Lane in Anchor Village Mobile Home Park after reports of a lightning strike.
Southport Fire Chief Charles Drew said a boyfriend and girlfriend lived inside the mobile home when it caught on fire. Drew said the man made it out; however the woman did not. The sheriff’s office said a dog died in the fire as well.

The Southport Fire Department posted on Facebook that it is a “very serious situation”.
Chief Drew said firefighters had walked around the neighborhood about three months ago to offer free smoke detectors. There was a smoke detector in the home, but crews weren’t sure if it was working.
