Two dead, one hospitalized after shooting in Castle Hayne

CASTLE HAYNE, NC (WWAY) — Authorities in New Hanover County are investigating a shooting that left two people dead and another critically injured.
Shortly before 9 a.m. Monday, deputies with the new Hanover County Sheriff’s Office responded to this home on Bowman Drive.
Upon arrival, deputies found one person dead and two others suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both of the injured individuals were transported to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center. One of them died at the hospital.
“One of the individuals that was transported to the hospital has succumbed to a gunshot wound and is dead. The third individual is being treated for injuries consistent with a gunshot wound,” Major Chris Smith said.
Two hours later, the drive was blocked off by police tape as some family members arrived on scene.
So far, the sheriff’s office has not released any information about what may have led to the shooting, or the identities of those involved.
“We want to emphasize that this is an isolated incident, that there is no outstanding threat to public safety based off of this, and our deputies are working hard to investigate the matter and bring it to a swift resolution,” Smith said.
The sheriff’s office would not say whether criminal charges are forthcoming.
