One in custody following shooting on Dawson Street

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY NEWS) — On Monday morning, Wilmington Police Department officers arrived to the 1500 block of Dawson Street to respond to a hit and run incident. An unoccupied U-Haul truck with a shattered window was discovered.

According to a news release from the Wilmington Police Department, officers have determined that two people were previously sitting inside of the truck outside of a nearby business when a silver GMC Suburban pulled into the parking lot and fired a gunshot round towards the vehicle. The window of the U-Haul was shattered and one person inside was struck, prompting them to drive forward. The truck then hit two other vehicles. 

A victim of a gunshot wound was admitted to the hospital for non-critical injuries.

Austin Snowten, 24, has been charged with Discharge Firearm Enclosure, Discharge Firearm Occupied Dwelling/Moving Vehicle, Assault Inflicting Serious Injury, and Possession of Firearm by Felon. He is currently being held without bond at the NHSO Detention Center.
