One person injured in stabbing in Brunswick County

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — One man faces charges after a stabbing in Brunswick County early Thursday morning.

A spokesperson with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office said it happened at 540 Creekview Lane near Leland.

Deputies arrested Robert Michael Smith, 70. According to the warrant, Smith stabbed the victim with a 6″ filet knife.

The victim was transported to the hospital.

Daniel Mango lives next door to Smith. He was home when it happened and believes it was self-defense.

“He had a minor cut in the stomach, it looked minor, but he was still trying to attack the older gentleman,” Mango said. “And unfortunately he’s the aggressor and the other guy ended up being arrested by the sheriff’s department.

Smith is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He is being held under a $150,000 bond.
