One teen in custody after ShotSpotter alert

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One Wilmington juvenile is in custody after he fired a handgun into a tree, according to police.

Wilmington Police Department says that Monday night around 11 p.m., police responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 400 block of Gleason Road. When the police arrived, they found two males at the scene and detained them.

After an investigation, police say that one of the teens fired a handgun at a tree, then hid the weapon underneath a shed.

No injuries were reported.
