One teenager dead in Ocean Isle Beach after being caught in potential rip current

OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — One teenager in Ocean Isle Beach is dead after drowning in a potential rip current.

According to Ocean Isle Beach Mayor Debbie Smith, three teenagers were caught in a potential rip current between 12:30 and 1pm Sunday afternoon. Two of the teenagers were safely rescued, but first responders were unable to save the third teenager. The three teenagers were on a chaperoned day trip to the beach.
