One woman walks the world for a cure

NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH (WWAY) — One woman is lacing up her walking shoes and hitting the road in the hopes of raising money and awareness for Multiple Sclerosis.

20 years ago Angela Kirby was diagnosed with MS, but she hasn’t let that slow her down. And now at 70 years old, she will be taking her inspiring attitude on the road by traveling the world to find a cure.

Kirby will be walking 150 kilometers. That’s about 93 miles. She will be traveling to Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, Wales, Ireland, Belgium, France, Turkey, South Africa, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand.

Kirby is trying to raise money for MS research. She thinks this journey is a great way to celebrate the big 70.

“Celebrate your birthday, be glad it’s here, and be glad you’ve got people who love you and you love them. And I thought that just encapsulates everything of this year,” said Kirby.

Her journey is for all those who lost the fight, and all those still fighting today.

“I hope I inspire people with MS to keep saying to themselves ‘I can do it.'” And just hang in there. Do it. And just accept what they’ve got and carry on living. Don’t give in. Don’t give up,” said Kirby.

Her journey is also for herself. “I enjoy walking. I feel like I’m doing something. I’m not just sitting and letting the disease take over,” said Kirby.

Angela Kirby is not taking her illness lying down. Instead she is standing up and living her life, One step at a time.
