ONLY ON 3: 6th grader writes poem: ‘Twas the Night Before the Super Bowl

CLARKTON, NC (WWAY) — There is a boy in Clarkton who was already predicted a Super Bowl win for the Carolina Panthers.

“They’re my favorite team, and I believed in them. They were undefeated at the time,” said 6th grader Donnie Ezzell.

A few weeks ago Donnie got a poetry assignment in his English class.

“It was about ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas and we were studying poetry in class. So, Ms. Thompson asked us to write a poem, our own version that still had the same rhyme and meter and everything,” said Ezzell.

For Donnie it was a no brainer. He was going to write about the night before the Super Bowl with his favorite team, the Panthers, fighting for the title.

“They’re just my hometown team and they’re such an inspiration to me and the players are just so good and they have sportsmanship. They’re just my favorite,” said Ezzell.

Donnie’s teacher, Heather Thompson, said the team has been inspiring her students all season long.

“They see that you can achieve your goals. It does take hard work and we always tell the students “Look at the ones who do make it to the pros.” They have to work hard, they have the dedication, they have to go to college,” said Thompson.

She said the team has really brought people together.

“Everyday they’re like, ‘Did you see the game last night? Did you see the game last night?'” said Thompson.

With a big victory last weekend, and only one game left to play, everyone is hoping Donnie’s poem comes true. Donnie said he has just one thing he wants the Panthers to hear.

“That I always will believe in them and I hope they do a good job at the Super Bowl and they play their heart out,” said Ezzell.
