ONLY ON 3: One Tree Hill star returns to Wilmington to help Matthew victims

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It has almost been two months since Hurricane Matthew flooded our area and one of Wilmington’s well-known One Tree Hill stars is now in town to help the victims.

James Lafferty also known as Nathan Scott on the show will be downtown tomorrow night. He got into Wilmington tonight and stopped by Tavern Law to meet with the owners.

Lafferty said he called the owners of the bar a few weeks ago and asked how he he could help out this area after Hurricane Matthew. They came up with an event to raise money for victims and Toys for Tots for the holiday.

Lafferty will be a guest bartender tomorrow night at Tavern Law from 7 to 9. Then, he will make a guest appearance at Bourgie Nights during their live music show. He said he considered Wilmington home for eight years during the show and he wanted to make sure he did something to help the area.

“It felt like the right thing to do,” Lafferty said. “I felt like it made sense and I take any excuse I can to get back and see my friends here you know to get back to the City so it just felt like the right thing to do.”

The creator of the show Mark Schwahn was also with him tonight. He said he has not been back since the show ended, but he could not be happier to be back for a good cause.

Tavern Law Owner Chris Maher said it means a lot that Lafferty is doing this for the community.

“I think it’s a great marriage of locals supporting locals,” Maher said. “That’s our motto here. He has been a staple in the community and for him to kind of ask to help out I think is fantastic.”

The event will cost $15 at the door tomorrow night or you can bring a toy donation for Toys for Tots. It starts at 7:00 p.m. All of the proceeds will go to North Carolina Men’s Baptist Relief.
