ONLY ON 3: School bus driver caught on cam running red

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — A spokeswoman with the Brunswick County Schools says they’ve opened an investigation after one of their drivers was caught on dash cam running a red light.

A viewer shared the video with WWAY showing the driver blow through the light on Village Road in Leland. The driver was trying to turn right from the exit ramp of Highway 17/74/76 Thursday afternoon when the moment was captured.

Spokeswoman Jessica Swencki called the video compelling.

“This situation is currently under investigation which will include a conversation with the driver, review of the driver’s record, and determination as to whether students were actually on the bus,” Swencki said. “Given all of this information, appropriate personnel action will be determined by our transportation and human resources divisions. We continue to focus on driver training and are committed to providing safe, reliable student transportation.”
