UPDATE: Lockdown lifted at Onslow Co. schools

ONSLOW COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Multiple schools in Onslow County were on lockdown for around two hours Friday morning.

According to a release from an Onslow County Schools Public Information Officer, an investigation by law enforcement determined a potential social media threat was not credible. Officials say the threat occurred out of state.

The school district said for the safety and security of students, Swansboro High School, Swansboro Middle School and Queens Creek Elementary School were on lockdown. Swansboro Elementary and Sand Ridge Elementary were on community lockdown, meaning all outside activities were cancelled.
