Onslow County Board of Education requests $2.1 million increase from county

ONSLOW COUNTY, NC (WCTI) — The Onslow County Board of Education wants a $2.1 million budget increase from County Commissioners this year. The board is asking for $46.7 million, and school officials said the money is necessary to bring the county’s funding up to the state average.

“The major goal is to keep us at kind of the state levels,” said Suzie Ulbrich, Onslow County Schools Public Information Officer. “We’re slowly but surely in our budget getting up to that median figure.”

Officials said the increased funding is part of a spending plan worked out with the county last year that covers necessary increases.
