Onslow County deputies investigating drowning death of toddler

ONSLOW COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the drowning death of a young child after deputies responded to a missing child report Thursday afternoon.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 11, to the 200 block of Old Timber Road after a 16-month-old boy was reported missing.

Shortly after arriving at the scene, deputies located the child unconscious and submerged in water inside a container on the front porch of the home, authorities said.

Deputies immediately began lifesaving measures until Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived. The child was transported to Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is ongoing.
