Open forum tonight to talk about new asphalt plant

CASTLE HAYNE, NC (WWAY) — Southern Asphalt is looking to open a new asphalt plant off Holly Shelter Road in Castle Hayne and tonight they are holding an open forum to answer questions and provide information to folks about the plant.

The business, which paves things like subdivisions, streets, and parking lots, already services our area. According to Tom Johnson who is an attorney helping with the project, Southern Asphalt would like to open the plant to provide a more reliable supply of materials for their business. Currently they are getting asphalt from other providers.

Johnson said this plant will bring jobs to New Hanover county and said there is currently no asphalt plant in this area.

He adds that the plant would need to operate inside any federal and state standards for the land, which is already zoned for heavy industrial property.

The meeting is tonight from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Longleaf Room of the New Hanover County Executive Center, 2141 Military Cutoff Road (behind the County Library).

If you cannot attend, you are also welcome to contact Cindee Wolf either by phone 910-620-2374, or email cwolf@lobodemar.biz with comments and/or questions.
