Orlando Jones, Loni Love to headline Wilmington charity comedy show for at-risk youth
WILMINGTON, NC — Actor and comedian Orlando Jones will return to Wilmington later this month to host a charity comedy show aimed at supporting at-risk youth in the Port City.
The “Standup for Oops” event is set for 7 p.m. on Aug. 22 at The Terraces on Sir Tyler. Jones will host, with comedian and television personality Loni Love headlining. Proceeds will benefit the Oops Foundation, a Wilmington-based nonprofit that provides training, clothing, and other resources to help disadvantaged young people and adults prepare for the workforce.
Jones, known for his roles in films such as “Drumline” and the TV series “Abbott Elementary,” serves on the foundation’s board. He said he got involved through founder Atiba Johnson, a Wilmington native, because of his connection to the community.
“I think it’s important to focus some of your attention on the disadvantaged in the community — those people who just don’t have the opportunities, don’t have the training,” Jones said in an interview with WWAY. “It’s a wonderful thing for an organization to do, not to really leave anybody behind.”
Jones described Love as “the ultimate auntie” and said their on-stage reunion will be full of laughs. The two last performed together during a comedy tour in South Africa.
Tickets for the show are available through Eventbrite and the Oops Foundation website. Jones said attendees should “wear tight pants” because you “just might laugh your butt off.”
