Outdoor workers try to beat extreme heat
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The heat outside made it an uneasy day for anyone out in the elements, but some people with hot jobs had no other option but to try and beat the heat. Richard Ward has a produce stand off US 74/76 in Columbus County. He says he’s gotten used to not only the heat but all types of weather. He says the key to staying cool is eating.
“Drink a lot of water and eat a lot of fruit,” Ward said as temperatures hovered near 100 today. “I believe yesterday was pretty hot, the hottest day we’ve had. Today sitting over here in the shade it feels pretty good.”
Ward says he thinks the best fruit to keep you cool is watermelon.
