Overnight home invasion ends with an arrest

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Deputies with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office said a man is in jail after breaking into a woman’s home overnight.

Lt. Jerry Brewer said just after midnight, a woman awoke to the sound of breaking glass. The woman ran into a bathroom and called 911. Deputies said when they arrived on scene at the home on Stonemoor Court, they saw a white vehicle leaving the residence. Brewer said Nicholas Alexander Merritt, 24, was arrested. He said Merritt was found “with evidence of the crime” in his car and charged.

Merritt is facing a charge of felony first degree burglary and misdemeanor possession of burglary tools. He was booked under a $15,000 bond.
