Wrightsville Beach Brewing and other businesses helped deliver supplies to western NC

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — It’s been two weeks since Hurricane Helene devastated western North Carolina.

To help those in need, several New Hanover County-based companies got together and headed out there.

Wrightsville Beach Brewery and the Qualified Captain and Beach Maintenance Repair took supplies out to several areas of western North Carolina.

What started as 3 trailers filled with supplies turned into a 14-trailer caravan as more and more people donated supplies.

Along with distributing items, they helped clear fallen trees and reach people stranded in their homes.

Jud Watkins owns the Brewery and helped organize the entire trip.

He said he couldn’t believe the amount of love and support people showed for each other out there.

“The theme of the trip was everywhere we went, it was I’m okay, go help my neighbor, I’m alright, I don’t want to take too much, please help someone else,” Watkins said. “And that was really what warmed my heart, even though it was just devastating, everywhere you went, so much destruction. But just so much kindness and willingness to help your neighbors.”

Watkins says he might do another trip to bring more supplies out there but isn’t sure when or if that might occur.
