Park rangers discover human remains on North Carolina island

HARKERS ISLAND, NC (AP) — Authorities in North Carolina say they are trying to identify human remains that were discovered on a barrier island over the weekend.

Cape Lookout National Seashore officials said rangers found the remains around 3:30 p.m. Sunday on Shackleford Banks.

The National Park Service said in a statement that the remains were turned over to the medical examiner’s office.

The agency didn’t comment further.
