PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. (CBS) — Marines at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in South Carolina celebrated a special birthday Monday, December 11th.

It was the second birthday of mascot ‘Corporal’ Opha Mae II.

The bulldog is named after the first woman Marine recruit, Opha Mae Johnson, who enlisted in 1918.

The mascot is used to boost morale for Marines and recruits aboard the depot, as well as families who come to visit graduates.

She celebrated her birthday alongside her fellow Marines, who spoiled her with cake, a birthday hat, gifts, and treats.
