Paul Cairney no longer employed with UNCW

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — After he was accused of sexual misconduct on two separate occasions during his time with UNCW, long-time UNCW Women’s soccer coach Paul Cairney is no longer with the program.

A school spokesperson confirmed the move today to WWAY, but would not say whether he was fired or resigned.

Last December, the school learned Cairney had been accused of sexual misconduct by a female attendee of a soccer camp in 1997 and placed him on paid administrative leave.

After an investigation by the school and the SBI, the school also learned of a second misconduct claim against Cairney from 2004 made by a member of the university’s athletic department.

Cairney has been part of the UNCW Women’s soccer program since its inception in 1994.
