Pedaling for a purpose: just a man, his pup, and a rubber chicken
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — He is not just your average man biking across the country, he is a man on a mission to raise awareness for animal shelters across the nation.
For the past 3 years, Mike Minnick, his dog Bixby and their rubber safety chicken Charlie have been biking across America.
Together they have pedaled more than 17,000 miles to spread the word about adopting from animal shelters and giving sheltered animals a chance who might not otherwise have one.
“Using Bixby as an ambassador to shelter dogs, we now like to go visit local animal shelters and get people to support their local shelters. Saying you can only get a dog this cool from adopting one from your local shelter and in doing so they will rescue you and take you on an amazing adventure,” Minnick said.
After biking around the country Minnick plans on writing a children’s book based on their adventures titled “Dreams are like Sticks.”
