Pender Co. highway open after isolated incident
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — According to the Pender County Sheriff’s Office, at 5:40 am.m today a call was received by the 911 Center about an individual who had contacted the Washington VA Hospital and had communicated threats against the facility located in Raleigh.
The caller was located in the 1100 block of NC Hwy 210 East in Surf City.
Officers with Surf City and Pender County Sheriff’s Office units responded and attempted contact at the home. A person there was observed wearing a flight jacket and was in possession of several magazines for a firearm.
When officers made contact, the person went back in the house where they remained for approximately 20-25 minutes. Precautions were taken and NC Highway 210 East was shut down.
The subject later came out of the home and was taken into custody by officers. The subject was transported to a medical facility for evaluation. No injuries were reported.
The sheriff’s office said no further information will be released.
