Pender County Board of Adjustment pushes back appeal on Dirt Bike Air BNB
Rocky Point, NC (WWAY)– The Pender County board of adjustment was supposed decide on the appeal of “salty acres park” a controversial Air BNB, that allows people to ride dirt bikes across sixty acres.
Neighbors have been clashing with the property’s owner, Chad Nichols, over complaints of trespassing and loud noises.
Residents want the board to designate salty acres as a commercial entity, operating in a residential neighborhood, which is against county code
When one of the adjusters didn’t show up to the meeting, Nichols protested. The board decided to put off decision until January twenty-first
“It was just under the direction of our attorney and the advice of our attorney, and the advice of everybody else. Without having full board, it didn’t make sense to move forward”, said Nichols.
Neighbors like Bill McAbee are disappointed by the delay.
“It’s beyond frustrating, you know as part I was going to tell the board members. I think this is the twelfth time that we have got together. maybe a little less maybe a little bit more. it’s ridiculous the time and effort that everyone put into something that shouldn’t be happening”, said McAbee
Fellow neighbor, Gary Helms has seen this before.
Pender County forbids unreasonably loud disturbing noises between eleven pm and seven am but previous attempts at installing a daytime ordinance failed.
Tired of waiting to resolve this noise issue, neighbors are vowing to go to court to label Nichol’s Air BNB as a commercial enterprise.
“We will file a petition of writ of mandamus to the superior court. Which would compel them to enforce it”, said Helms.
