PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A former Pender County sheriff’s deputy has been indicted following an investigation into a use of force incident at the Pender County Jail.

Eva Scott, who was previously employed by the sheriff’s office, is no longer with the department, according to a news release from the Pender County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office says the investigation began after a routine review of a use of force report by a sheriff’s office supervisor revealed a ‘concerning incident’. This led to an internal investigation, during which questions were raised about the conduct described in the report.

The internal affairs findings were forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office, which then referred the matter to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation  for further review.

The Pender County Sheriff’s Office says it fully cooperated with the SBI throughout its investigation, which ultimately resulted in an indictment against Scott, the news release stated.

No further details have been released regarding the nature of the use of force incident.

The SBI says Scott was indicted by a Pender County grand jury on Monday on three counts of simple assault and one count of willful failure to discharge duties
