Pender County deputy resigns after accused of fraudulent transactions
NEW HANOVER COUNTY/BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — A Pender County Sheriff’s deputy has resigned after law enforcement say he fraudulently returned TVs to Walmart in Porter’s Neck and Burgaw.
According to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Jordan Beale Cullifer, 39, purchased a TV from the Walmart in Porter’s Neck. He then took it home and replaced it with his current TV. He returned to the store and reported to them there was a used TV in the packaging. The Sheriff’s Office says the store gave him a new TV to replace it and that’s when he took it to the Walmart in Burgaw.
Sheriff’s Office Lt. Jerry Brewer says Cullifer returned the TV to the store for a refund, which the Burgaw store processed.
Cullifer at the time was a Pender County Sheriff’s deputy assigned to the uniform patrol division. The alleged fraud happened on January 10th and law enforcement reached out to the Pender County Sheriff’s Office. They confronted Cullifer who then issued his resignation Saturday.
Cullifer was then charged with the fraud in New Hanover County and released on bond.
He was nearing 5 years of service with the Pender County Sheriff’s Office. At the time of his resignation, Cullifer was receiving a salary of $35,351.86. He had no reported suspensions, dismissals, or demotions during his time with the Sheriff’s Office.
