Pender County extends emergency/disaster relief housing deadlines
BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — Written into Pender County’s Planning and Community Development Unified Development Ordinance is a section that acknowledges recovery from a natural disaster often exceeds deadline.
Hurricane Florence left many Pender County homeowners and citizens displaced from their homes. The recovery from Hurricane Florence is still ongoing.
“Based on the ongoing recovery efforts, it is necessary to provide our citizens additional time to continue their repairs to reoccupy their homes,” said Kyle Breuer, Pender County planning and community development director. “While doing repairs numerous recreational vehicles and manufactured homes are being utilized, some being provided through FEMA and others through private funds for placement.”
According to the county’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), a maximum of 365-days is allowed for emergency/disaster relief housing to be utilized.
Breuer said it is necessary to exercise the UDO’s provision to extend the housing deadlines up to 365 days for structures deemed emergency/disaster relief housing.
