Pender County greenlights funds for design phase of new K-8 school
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A new school for kindergarten through eighth grade students in Pender County is one step closer to becoming a reality.
The school board voted Tuesday night to approve funding for the first installment for the design phase. More than $179,000 will be paid from the Pender County general fund.
It comes after voters approved a $178 million school bond last year.
Dr. Brad Breedlove, PCS superintendent, says the new school is necessary as growth continues in the Hampstead area.
“As everyone knows, the roads are crowded, the schools are crowded,” Breedlove said. “So, getting this bond going and getting this school built is a priority for us.”
The board also approved funding for environmental testing at the school site. More than $167,000 will come from the capital outlay fund for that.
