Pender County man receives solo art show, Lower Cape Fear LifeCare invites community
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Pender County man is having his artwork featured in a special art show next week.
Tavish Wetherill is 23 years old. He’s always had a fondness for creating art, with zombies and monsters being a recurring theme. Wetherill takes art inspiration from movies, books, and conversations with friends.
In ninth grade, he was diagnosed with brain cancer.
“When his cancer hit him when he was in the ninth grade, for a couple of years, he was not able to even hold a pencil,” said Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Marketing and Public Relations Specialist Sally Shepherd.
Following a two-year battle with the disease, he was able to regain brain and motor control function. Despite all his health struggles, Wetherill has learned to adapt to the challenges he’s faced.
Lower Cape Fear LifeCare is planning to showcase Wetherill’s work next week. Sally Shepherd works at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.
The organization provides hospice care and support to its patients and their families. She encouraged the community to show up in support.
“A lot of the people in the community are rallying around to help us. But we just want to get the word out so that we can get people there to make it a very special day for Tavish who has been a lifelong artist,” Shepherd said
If you would like to check out this special solo art show, it will be held at Cape Fear Community College’s Alton W. Burke Center located on Hwy. 210 in Surf City. It will be held on Tuesday, May 7th from 5 to 7 in the evening.
