Pender County opens new debris site drop-off site
BURGAW, NC (WWAY) – More than a month after Hurricane Florence devastated the Cape Fear, vegetative debris continues to pile-up along roads throughout Pender County.
A new site has been opened as a debris drop-off site at 8022 NC Highway 210 in Rocky Point. This site is for vegetative debris only and the county’s debris contractor will continue to pick-up roadside debris.
“With the abundance of debris generated from Hurricane Florence, the new site will allow residents who live along dirt roads or in a gated community to properly dispose of their debris,” said Tom Collins, Pender County Emergency Management director.
The site will be open to Pender County residents who are able to transport debris in their own vehicle to this location. No commercially-collected debris will be allowed to use the site.
As for how long it will take to pick-up all the roadside debris, Collins encourages residents to be patient.
“Our contractor is working diligently to get this handled for the citizens of Pender County,” Collins said. “With the magnitude of debris generated from Hurricane Florence, its going to take some time and we’re asking for the public’s patience.”
To use the site on NC 210, you will need a valid form of photo identification. The site will be open daily from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. and closed on Sundays.
