Pender County Schools announces final four name choices for new K-8 school

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — Pender County Schools is in the final phase of selecting a name for the new K-8 school in Hampstead, and the district is seeking community input. After gathering feedback, the list has been narrowed down to four final name choices, and voting is now open.
The selected name should reflect the history, geography, or community of the area. Here are the choices:
- Hampstead Elementary / Hampstead Middle
- Topsail Elementary / Topsail Middle
- East Pender Elementary / East Pender Middle
- Hampstead Elementary / Topsail Middle
The final decision will be made by the Pender County Schools Board of Education based on the survey results. The deadline to vote is March 4.
Additionally, as part of the district’s plan to address student growth, Topsail Middle School will transition into a Freshman Academy to ease overcrowding at Topsail High School. As a result, the name “Topsail Middle” will no longer exist unless it is selected in this final vote and approved by the Board of Education.
