Pender County Schools asking for input regarding mascots of 2 new schools

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Pender County Schools is asking the public for input in selecting mascots for the district’s two newest schools, J.H Lea Elementary and J.H. Lea Middle School.

Both schools are currently under construction and scheduled to be open by August of 2027.

Earlier this fall, students attending the schools that will feed into J.H. Lea Elementary and Middle were surveyed to share ideas for potential mascots.

The most popular suggestions have been put into a community survey now open to the public.

The suggested mascot names listed for both schools include:

Barracuda
Cardinals
Flounder
Jellyfish
Lion Fish
Lobster
Marlins
Orcas
Pelicans
Seahorses
Sea Stars
Spot
Squid
Tardigrade
Whale Sharks

The survey will remain open until November 12th.

Selections for both schools will be finalized later this school year, with official announcements shared on the district’s website and social media pages.
