Pender County Schools looks to address ways to improve school performances

BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — The Pender County School District is looking at ways to address low-performing schools.

During the November 26th meeting, principals from the county’s low-performing schools presented improvement plans to the board.

7 of the 19 schools in Pender County were listed as low-performing for the 2022-23 school year.

The grades are based on a combination of proficiency and academic growth.

District superintendent Brad Breedlove said school improvement always begins with the principal, an important focus for the county.

“3 of the 6 do have new principals in them and so we are always working with our leadership, to ensure that we are making progress with effective leadership,” Breedlove said.

During Monday’s meeting, the Pender County Board of Education unanimously approved the school improvement plans introduced during the previous meeting.
