Pender county schools provides updates on new K-8 school; tables new bell system
They expect the school to be completed in July 2027.
PENDER COUNTY (WWAY) –Tuesday, the Pender County School Board held a meeting to discuss several things, but things didn’t quite go as planned. Some of the items on the agenda — including a new three-tiered bell system and updates to the new K-8 school — were tabled.
Board members say the new bell system would help primarily with schools located on the east side of the county. They’re trying to protect instructional time, improve campus safety, and address a bus driver shortage.
The proposed new schedule would have middle school students dismissed from school first, followed by high school and elementary students. Since half of the board was not present for Tuesday’s meeting, they had to table, deciding on this matter.
As far as the new K-8 school, some members wanted to call it Hampstead Elementary and Hampstead Middle. However, not every board member agreed. The school’s name is still being determined.
However, members say the construction is currently running on schedule.
Aerial views show progress on land clearing. Officials say the foundation is expected to be poured in June- and finished by September.
They expect the school to be completed in July 2027.
